Leadership Jazz: An Exercise in Creativity
Wichita State University Creatively using limited resources is a skill exhibited by outstanding leaders. Effective leaders must develop their own creative capacities and nurture creativity in their followers. In this exercise, students work alone and/or in small groups to create musical instruments (and play a tune) using only the resources they have with them. Students are provided the opportunity to confront and overcome some of the most common barriers to creativity. Furthermore, students can learn firsthand techniques that research has shown to be effective for overcoming obstacles to creative thinking.
